The American Flag: A Symbol of Liberty and Unity

A Brief History of the US Flag

The national flag of the United States, often referred to as the American flag or the US flag, has a rich history that dates back to the country's founding. The first official flag of the United States was adopted by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, and it consisted of 13 alternating stripes of red and white, representing the thirteen original colonies.

The Stars and Stripes

In 1795, two stars were added to the flag, representing the two new states of Vermont and Kentucky. As the United States continued to expand, new stars were added to the flag, and it eventually reached its current design of 50 stars, representing the fifty states of the Union.

The Stars and Stripes has become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world, representing the ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy. It is flown at government buildings, schools, and homes across the country, and it is a source of pride for Americans everywhere.
